What type of people do we look for at Terra?

We look for hunger in solving problems: Very few people in the world hunger for problems. This is obvious; avoiding problems is intrinsic to human nature. A hunger for problems goes beyond simply liking your work; it is akin to obsession. We look for this spark in our candidates; Do they dig deep into Terra's white paper? Are they annoying us with odd questions outside of the interview process? Once hired, we should aim to bring out this quality in our teammates.

You will be responsible for the following:

As Terra's Growth Strategy Lead, you will be responsible for driving Terra's country expansion across South East Asia. You will establish operations in each new market, and act as interim Country Manager while you source a permanent team to manage operations locally. Once conditions are stable, you will be off on your next adventure to set Terra up for success in its next strategic market.

  • New market entry - identify the most appropriate way to launch Terra in new markets in South East Asia. If a license is required, you will need to manage the process end-to-end: understand the regulations, own the application and get the regulatory buy-in. If a license is not possible, identify alternative models for market entry
  • Hiring a permanent country management team, including Country Manager, Business Development and Country Marketing Manager
  • Building initial e-commerce partnerships in each market to drive genesis traction and gather insights
  • Strategic opportunities to benefit local customers and retailers - including developing new product features based on deep understanding of customer behaviour and competitors, partnering with local players
  • Sharing the results of your hard work via a solid PR and marketing campaign
  • Representing Terra at industry events and helping to convey Terra's broader mission to key stakeholders, including government entities, local partners, investors

You will find it easier to do your job if you have the following qualities. Needless to say, none of these qualities supersede your intellectual and professional curiosity:

  • English (required), ideally with working level knowledge of one other South East Asian language
  • Meaningful execution experience in establishing operations in new markets at technology, fintech or payments companies is highly recommended
  • A solid grasp of the payments stack and the fintech innovation landscape (Alipay, Rapyd, PayPal, Grab are some of the companies that we hold in high esteem)
  • Experience in building and leading teams
  • Strong communicator & public speaker
  • Strong interest in monetary economics, blockchain, and cryptocurrencies
